About Anthony Breslin

Early Life and Background
Born in Melbourne in 1966, Anthony Breslin developed an early interest in the arts, leading him to pursue formal education in the field. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from RMIT University in 1999, establishing a foundation for his diverse artistic career.

Artistic Development and Education
Breslin's artistic journey is marked by a commitment to exploring various mediums and forms. In 2007, he completed a residency at New York's prestigious Point B Studios, which expanded his creative horizons. His innovative approach was recognised in 2008 when he received the International Award for Emerging Artists at the Shanghai Art Fair.

Major Works and Exhibitions
Throughout his career, Breslin has held over 60 solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including shows in Hong Kong, Zurich, Prague, Barcelona, Shanghai, Bern, London, and Dublin.

Notable works include "Trybe: An Opera in Paint," a groundbreaking production that has been performed over three seasons since 2006, blending visual art with theatrical performance. His public installations, such as "The Story of Big Frog" mural in Murrumbeena, Melbourne, based on his children's book "Brezania," highlight his engagement with community art projects.

Technique and Style
Breslin's art is characterised by a high-energy, captivating cacophony of objects, colour, memory, and emotion. His works often feature a manic arrangement that visualises memory and emotion, building momentum the more one engages with them. He employs a variety of materials and techniques, creating immersive experiences that challenge traditional boundaries between different art forms.

Legacy and Influence
Breslin's multidisciplinary approach and community-focused projects have made a lasting impact on the Australian art landscape. His dedication to integrating art into public spaces and engaging with diverse audiences has inspired both emerging and established artists to explore new forms of expression and community involvement.

Recent Activities
Despite facing serious health challenges over the past eight years, including battling blood cancer and undergoing bone marrow and kidney transplants, Breslin continues to be a committed work machine. He works 2-3 days at his studio in Upwey with his assistant and also has a drawing studio at home. Currently, he is working on his next two books, which will be published by Melbourne Books. He is also involved in new mural projects in St Kilda, Melbourne, and a unique sculptural installation at Westall Secondary College.
